11,000 cheer Belgium cup winners Knack Roeselare and Hermes Ostend

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 17, 2020 – More than 11,000 fans filled Antwerp’s historical Sport Palace to watch Knack Roeselare and Hermes Rekkenshop Oostende claim the men’s and women’s titles in the EuroMillions Cup Finals, Sunday as the iconic venue hosted the event for the sixth time.

Roeselare wrote Belgian Cup history, winning their fifth straight title after downing Lindemans Aalst with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18 25-18, 25-22) win inspired by a blue and orange wall of their fans in the stands.

The ladies game produced a real thriller as Ostend were twice equalised but outlasted Asterix Avo Beveren 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 14-25, 15-13) to successfully defend their title. It was revenge for Ostend, who had twice lost in five sets to Beveren in the Round of 16 of the European CEV Cup just a few short weeks ago.

“The EuroMillions Cup Finals are a lot more than two finals,” said the competition’s organizing director Geert De Dobbeleer. “Thanks to the great organisational team of TopVolleyBelgium and with focus on the sport presentation, we created a fantastic event with a tailor-made program for kids and volleyball clubs. For sure the EMCF is the most important day for volleybal in Belgium – for players, media and our partners.”

With features such as a big LED screen, top of the bill animation, one of the eyecatchers this year was a custom-designed VIP experience for kids. Around 1,000 children got a very special VIP treatment and some very exclusive tours behind the scenes. As organisers, TopVolleyBelgium wanted to focus more in celebrating the youngest volleyball players – the stars of the future.

In the next edition, a special Valentine event, TopVolleyBelgium will organise the EuroMillions Cup Finals on 14th February 2021 – and there is no doubt they will again take it to a higher level.
