Wolves star Patrick Cutrone reveals his coronavirus hell after contracting Covid-19 while in locked-down Italy

WOLVES striker Patrick Cutrone has admitted he was left terrified after contracting Covid-19.

The Italian striker arrived at Molineux from Milan in a £16m deal last summer and played 24 times for boss Nuno Espirito Santo – scoring just three times – before heading on loan to Fiorentina in January.

Cutrone, 22, is one of 15 players in Serie A who have been struck down by the coronavirus.

He had played just seven times for Fiorentina before the season was halted due to the pandemic.

Italian football officials are hoping to restart the League next month and as there are still 12 rounds to play, Cutrone fears the season will not get finished

He was diagnosed as having the virus on March 14 – six days after featuring in a 0-0 draw at Udinese – and Cutrone was given the all clear by doctors on April 5.

He said: “I have heard from many of my team-mates at Wolverhampton and I cannot single anyone out in case I forget one – but they were all worried about my health and I appreciated their concern a lot.

“At the beginning of March, I had symptoms like a high temperature and a sore throat. Then I took a test and I realised it was coronavirus.

“At the beginning I was frightened. This is a sneaky virus that nobody knows so I was worried for myself, for my relatives and for my team-mates.

“After the first few days, the situation slowly improved.

“At the end, when doctors told me the result was negative, I was relieved because this nightmare was off my back.

“Like for many others in the world, if you get it, the only important thing is recovering.

“Now, I am inside my house in Florence with my girlfriend Francesca and our dog Arno.

“In the morning, I train in a small gymnasium in my house and, in terms of food, I follow suggestions by Fiorentina’s nutritionist.

“In my free time, I usually watch movies on television, I read newspapers and books, I play games on line and sometimes I cook.

“I miss not training with my team-mates and I hope to do that as soon as possible”.

Before returning to Italy, Cutrone struggled to really make an impression at Wolves.

He made his debut in a 4-0 win at Pyunik Yerevan in the Europa League, only made nine starts and his goals came in the 5-2 home defeat to Chelsea, 2-1 loss at Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup and 2-0 home win over West Ham in December.

He said: “My experience in the Premier League has been very important.

“For the first time in my life, I was far from home and in England I have experienced a new football culture and a different lifestyle.

“Also, I won’t forget Wolves’ fans because they welcomed me in an incredible way.

“I now appreciate English football even more. The Premier League is the best

tournament of the world, I am sure of that.

“So, I enjoyed Wolves but I am now on-loan for two seasons at Fiorentina and can only think about that.

“I really want to restart playing football but first of all we have to think about everybody’s health.

“At the moment I believe it is difficult saying when we play again.

“I am not optimistic about finishing this season”.
