Wolves ace Patrick Cutrone tests positive for coronavirus and put in quarantine at home while on loan at Fiorentina

WOLVES star Patrick Cutrone has tested positive for coronavirus and is now in quarantine at his home in Florence.

The Italian, 22, is on an 18-month loan at Fiorentina from the Molineux club, making the switch back to his homeland in January.

But he and Fiorentina team-mate German Pezzella, as well as physio Stefano Dainelli, have now contracted the deadly bug.

The Serie A club’s official Twitter account announced the news on Saturday morning.

A post read: “COVID-19: MORE POSITIVE TESTS ACF Fiorentina announces that footballers Patrick Cutrone and German Pezzella and physiotherapist Stefano Dainelli also underwent tests, as they were showing some symptoms.

“All three resulted positive and are in good health at their homes in Florence.”

Yesterday, 13th-placed Fiorentina also announced Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic was at home after testing positive – despite not showing any symptoms.

Juventus defender Daniele Rugani was the first player from Italy’s top flight to contract the disease.

That led to 121 Juve players and staff self-isolating to try and limit the spread.

Former Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini was the second with the Sampdoria ace confirming the news on his Instagram account.

All sporting events in Italy have been cancelled until April 3 at the earliest and the whole country has been placed on lockdown.

It has been reported that the Serie A season could be cancelled without a winner.

Cutrone’s parent club will not be in action until at least April 4 with both their Premier League and Europa League fixtures postponed.

The FA, Premier League, EFL and WSL decided to suspend English professional football for three weeks in an attempt to reduce the risk of the outbreak worsening.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is the only Premier League star to catch coronavirus so far while Mikel Arteta tested positive.

A number of players or staff at Leicester, Watford, Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham, Manchester City and Brighton are self-isolating either due to showing symptoms of the virus or as a precautionary measure.

As things stand, Wolves’ trip to Aston Villa is the lunchtime kick-off on the next round of fixtures – meaning that match would be the next Premier League game to be played.

However, as revealed by SunSport, top-flight chiefs are under increasing pressure to CANCEL the entire season.

At least two club bosses want the campaign declared null and void, which would deny Liverpool — managed by Jurgen Klopp — a first title win since 1990.

League chiefs are determined to resume playing when possible and play through to complete the season.

But a growing number of clubs believe that there is little or no prospect of football returning for MONTHS and that there is no alternative but to annul the entire campaign and start from scratch in August.
