Wimbledon Crazy Gang would be facing lawsuits if they played in Premier League now, says FA Cup hero Lawrie Snachez

LAWRIE SANCHEZ reckons Wimbledon’s Crazy Gang would be hit with lawsuits in this day and age.

With players like Vinnie Jones and Dennis Wise among their ranks, the Crazy Gang gained a notorious reputation for their pranks and off-the-field antics.

And Sanchez, 60, admitted: “Wimbledon as it was back then simply couldn’t exist now.

“In the world of social media, some of the stuff we got up to on trips away would have been all over the papers now.

“At the end of the season, all the teams went to Magaluf or Ibiza for the week and players got hammered and up to all sorts. Some of the things that went on could fill books, but they never got into the papers.

“Then, all of a sudden, papers started sending journalists on these trips to look for stories and players quickly realised that they couldn’t get away with it anymore, it changed everything.

“Even our dressing-room banter wouldn’t be tolerated in the world we live in now.

“The HR department would have been inundated with complaints from players and there would be lawsuits flying — it was pretty mad. We were not called the Crazy Gang for nothing.

“You can go too far with some of what we see in this snowflake society now, but I feel we did take things too far at times.

“It was different back then and it worked for us but you’d never get away with it now.”

Watch The Crazy Gang, part of the BT Sport Films series, tonight at 10pm on BT Sport 2.
