Carroll is yet to score in 30 games in all competitions since rejoining over a year ago.

The forward was left frustrated after being left on the bench for Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat at Leeds.

With Carroll seemingly unsettled, West Brom could look to sign him as they continue their fight to avoid relegation.

Allardyce managed Carroll at Newcastle early in the striker’s career, during the 2007-08 season, and at West Ham.

The Mirror claim Big Sam will ask old pal and current Toon boss Steve Bruce about Carroll’s availability in the coming weeks.

Carroll has just six months left on his contract with clubs able to negotiate pre-contract terms ahead of a free summer move.

But West Brom are set to tempt Bruce with a small upfront fee in a bid to sign him in the winter to get him fit and ready for what could be a vital run of games.

Allardyce if also targeting a reunion with James Tomkins – with the pair working together at West Ham AND Crystal Palace.

The defender, 31, is fit again after recovering from a thigh injury.

Tomkins has 18 months left on his current contract at Selhurst Park.

But the Eagles could be tempted into selling with Allardyce desperate to plug a hole in the heart of his defence.
