THERE may be no games being played in England’s top four tiers for at least three weeks, but some clubs aren’t letting the postponements get the better of them.
Due to coronavirus fears, all matches in England’s professional leagues have been called off until early April, much to the dismay of football fans.
But a select few teams have been keen to keep their fans entertained during the time in which their clubs would have been in action.
Watford were scheduled to face Leicester today, and the Hornets took to Twitter where they posted clips against the Foxes from a Football Manager simulation.
Nigel Pearson’s side were held to a 1-1 draw against Brendan Rodgers’ men, with Etienne Capoue shown a straight red card, with Marc Albrighton and Roberto Pereyra getting on the score sheet.
Some fans were left disappointed by the result, with many joking Watford still couldn’t win even in a game.
One said: “This isn’t even real and we still haven’t won.”
Another commented: “Own up how many times did you have to replay this to not lose.”
League Two side Leyton Orient also opted for a Football Manager simulation, with the O’s losing 1-0 away at Bradford.
Football Manager even congratulated them on their brilliant live blog, as they tweeted: “Top effort lads, what a ride. Hope to see more of this… if the fans don’t vote you out of a job.”
Fans were loving the content provided by the club, with one supporter writing: “Made me laugh and cry. No different to any other Saturday! Up the O’s!”
Another stated: “Brilliant effort by the club and admin staff. Great idea to fill the void! Well played! Look forward to the next one.”
Moving away from Football Manager, Southampton offered scheduled opponents Norwich to a game of noughts of crosses.
But after the Canaries failed to take them up on their offer, Manchester City’s admin team jumped at the chance to compete against the Saints.
In a high-octane battle between the two Premier League clubs, the game eventually ended in a draw, with the Citizens quipping: “Decent point on the road in the circumstances.”
The Southampton account tweeted: “An intriguing tactical battle comes to an end.”
It remains to be seen when the next Premier League game will take place, with top-flight chiefs holding crisis talks on Thursday to decide the outcome of the season.
