TOTTENHAM have been fined £18,000 after Uefa blamed Jose Mourinho for their Champions League match with RB Leipzig being slightly delayed.
The last-16 tie in North London, played on February 19, kicked-off three minutes late.
Spurs have been fined £18k after Mourinho was found to have caused their game with Leipzig to be delayed
Uefa have now deemed Mourinho to be responsible for the minor delay, fining the club and warning the Special One over his future conduct.
They revealed the news in a statement, which read: A statement released by Uefa read: “The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided:
- “To fine Tottenham Hotspur €20,000 (£18,000) for being responsible for the late kick-off.
- “The above fine must be paid within 90 days of communication of this decision.
- “To warn Tottenham Hotspur coach, Jose Mario Dos Santos Mourinho Felix, for being responsible for the late kick-off.
- “Tottenham Hotspur ensures that its coach is personally informed of this decision.”
Leipzig were also hit with a £2,000 fine after their fans launched missiles onto the pitch.
But for Tottenham, it was merely salt being rubbed into the wound, after they had already lost the match at home 1-0.
They would later be dumped out 4-0 on aggregate after being mauled in the away leg in March.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is getting back to work getting his players ready for their next game – whenever that may be – via VIDEO-LINK.
The Spurs boss and his coaching staff will put their stars through their paces while they will all be at their homes due to the coronavirus crisis.
With the entire country almost on lockdown, Mourinho has turned to technology to train his squad after the closure of the club’s training ground in the wake of the outbreak.
Despite the Government guidelines on social distancing and essential travel only, the players will be able to enjoy group practise sessions from the comfort of their own homes and gardens.
Mourinho and his coaches have remained in regular contact with his squad to check on their progress.
