Solskjaer branded a ‘puppet’ for defending Glazers from Man Utd fans – despite opposing them with supporters in 2005

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been slammed by fans for defending the club’s owners the Glazer family.

Once again at Old Trafford on Saturday for the 4-0 thrashing of Norwich chants of “Glazers out” rang out around the stadium.

The fans believe the owners are to blame for a spectacular fall from grace since the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking after the game Solskjaer admitted to hearing the protests, but insisted that everybody needs to “stick together”.

The 46-year-old said: “I noticed [the chants]. As a club we’ve got to stick together, we’ve got to be united, we are a family.

“I can only say from when I’ve been here I’ve been backed by the owners, I’ve been backed by Ed and they’re supporting me.

‘They (the fans) have just got to believe me when I say I feel we are doing loads of good things behind the scenes, we are going in the right direction.

“See the group today, the attitude, the work-rate, that’s the core of the group that’s gonna go forward.

“We are in all competitions. We are still in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, we’re fifth in the league, still challenging, we’ve improved the position from last season. We’ve got Europa League.”

OLE CHANGED HIS TUNE

It is a far cry from Solskjaer’s thoughts on the Glazer family back in 2005 when they completed the purchase of the club from JP McManus and John Magnier.

He spoke out against the Americans as they made their move to buy the club as he became the patron of Shareholders United – the group opposed to the takeover.

He said back then: “I think that the club remains in the right hands. I am absolutely on the supporters’ side and think the club is in very good hands as it is today.

“I am a United fan myself and only want what is best for the future.”

SOLSKJAER THE ‘PUPPET’

Fast forward 14 years, and Solskjaer clearly has to toe the “party line” if he is to keep his job.

But his defence of the owners saw many on social media label him their “puppet”.

Another described him as “Glazers’ dog” while another told him to “do your job and we will do ours”.

Tyrell Richard posted: “Smarter way would have been for him not to comment on it instead of confirming what we’ve suspected all along that he’s their lap dog.”

A United fan account tweeted: “Not sure my family would take most of my money and not contribute any of their own if I’m being honest.”

Charlie Unsworth wrote that Solskjaer was an “absolute clown”, while Jake Jackson posted that the gaffer was “selling his soul to keep his job”.

Vince Rosetta added that he was “The puppet that knows who is pulling the strings”.
