Newcastle’s new owners plot to raid LaLiga of their biggest stars on mega-transfer splurge once takeover is complete

NEWCASTLE’S prospective new owners plan to raid LaLiga of their biggest stars – once their takeover is complete.

Reports had claimed the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s £300million takeover was taking so long to complete that Mike Ashley could still be at the helm next season.

But a report from respected journalist Ben Jacobs now says the buyers are making plans for who they want to sign.

An incredible XI including Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann was one line up touted as possible.

That now appears to have taken a step closer, according to a report from Jacobs.

He claims to have interviewed a “senior source” at Saudi Media City who said Newcastle had “been purchased”.

And he quotes the source as saying: “The best LaLiga players will be bought, led by Messi.”

Jacobs points out the reference to Lionel Messi was just the source saying Newcastle will aim for the biggest and best names – not necessarily Messi.

Besides, the Nou Camp genius’ most likely destination appears to be Inter.

Jacobs adds that talk of the Saudi buyout has led to a surge of interest in the Magpies.

The journalist claims his source said: “Newcastle have gone from almost no fans in Saudi to widely known.

“They’ve started to catch Manchester United.”

The group behind the takeover are believed to be willing to plough £200m into transfers.

Real Madrid are desperate to offload a number of stars and want players to take pay cuts to fill the £180m hole left by coronavirus.

Gareth Bale – who is “mad” at Real for blocking his move to China – and James Rodriguez will reportedly be “aggressively pushed” out of the club.

On a more realistic level, Newcastle have been linked to Norwich star Todd Cantwell.

And former Manchester United target and Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is another who could be on his way to the North East.
