Newcastle fan who got hit in balls during Matt Ritchie’s celebration reveals he has been mercilessly teased by his pals

THE Newcastle fan whacked in the Crown Jewels by a corner flag after the Toon Army’s last-gasp winner against Chelsea has revealed he was “slightly tender” afterwards.

After Isaac Hayden’s 94th minute winner against Frank Lampard’s side on Saturday, Matt Ritchie charged over to celebrate and smashed the flag straight into Keith Robinson’s crotch.

A video circulated on Saturday night of Robinson crouched over in agony as delirious fans cheered with delight around him.

Robinson said: “It was slightly tender yesterday, but I’m absolutely fine.

“The timing of the goal was amazing, and I sit on the end seat so I jumped into the stairs giving it large when Isaac Hayden ran over – next thing I know, I’m bent over but still trying to celebrate – I had to sit down.”

Newcastle had plenty of fun on social media after the unfortunate incident but apologised on twitter – not that his mates have been as compassionate.

Speaking to Love Sport Breakfast, Robinson added: “There has been a twitter apology from Ritchie and the club, but yeah there’s just been a lot of hilarity over the course of the weekend – you get no sympathy from the lads.”

In an interview with The Athletic last week, Ritchie spoke of his ‘angry’ personality.

He said: “I am who I am. I can’t be something I’m not. I’m not a calm person. I’m an all-or-nothing sort of man.

“I can be angry. Definitely, over the years — especially in the last two or three years — I have calmed down a lot, yeah.

“But I think that’s with having children. It changes you.

“But I love it. I love the feeling of winning, of succeeding, that togetherness. When you win it’s so good.”
