MATT LE TISSIER has decided to take a break from social media after trolls allegedly tried to get him sacked.
The pundit, 51, has been slated online for his controversial views on the coronavirus pandemic.
Matt Le Tissier claimed the government have overreacted to the coronavirus pandemic
He was branded “thick” and “desperate for attention” after he compared the deadly bug to the common flu.
And he has come under-fire in recent weeks for criticising the government’s response to the crisis.
Le Tissier revealed fans have contacted his employers in an attempt to get him taken off air.
The former Southampton star claimed the “cyber bullies” are trying to “ruin my life” as he announced he would stepping away from social media.
He shared a lengthy statement with his 526,000 Twitter followers to explain his decision.
Part of it read: “Yes I’ve made mistakes and errors of judgement in the past which I regret but I believe the good I’ve done far outweighs the mistakes.
“I have huge sympathy for anyone for anyone who loses someone close to them by whatever health reason, I recently lost my grandad so I know how it feels.
“You trolls and bots out there who try to belittle me iwth your snide remarks trying to make out I’m some uncaring individual who has no empathy, you couldn’t be further from the truth and I feel incredible sorry for you that there is so little joy in your life that you resort to this.
“I truly hope you find happiness soon.
“Thankfully strength of mind and strength of character is something I have in abundance and that’s why I won’t be forced permanently off this platform by cyber bullies.
“Another group of people who I feel sorry for are the ones that are writing to my employers to try and get me sacked from my job and ruin my life by limiting income streams.
“My crime in all of this is that I feel the government have overreacted to the danger of Covid-19 (Now being referred to as coronavirus again if you haven’t noticed).
“I’m also not an anti Vaxxer as I’ve been labelled, I believe you should be free to choose what you put in your own body.
“If this Covid overreaction doesn’t lead to mandatory vaccines then I’ll happily apologise.”
