MAURICIO POCHETTINO is now the EVENS favourite to take over at Manchester United with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under yet more pressure at Old Trafford.
The former Tottenham boss, 47, has stormed to the top of the bookies’ list after United’s horror 2-0 defeat at Arsenal put the Norwegian under the microscope.
Pochettino is the favourite to replace Solskjaer at Man Utd, say the bookies
Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho – now in charge of Tottenham – in December 2018 on an interim basis and got off to a flying start.
But since taking the job permanently in March 2019, United’s form has fallen off a cliff.
The 2-0 loss at the Emirates on New Year’s Day left the club 24 points adrift of fierce rivals Liverpool in the Premier League table.
More worryingly though, is that the club are only 11 points above the drop zone – despite sitting fifth in the table – showing just how far they’ve fallen since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Since then, United have been under the leadership of David Moyes, Ryan Giggs (caretaker), Louis van Gaal, Mourinho and Solskjaer as the merry-go-round continues.
And now Pochettino could be the next man to hop on the ride – with Ladbrokes installing him as the evens favourite.
The former Spurs chief, sacked in November, was already on the Red Devils’ radar even before his North London exit.
Now even more attainable, Pochettino could find himself running the show at Old Trafford if Solskjaer can’t get the side back on top form soon.
Elsewhere, Massimiliano Allegri (10/1), Ralf Rangnick (12/1) and Brendan Rodgers (14/1) are amongst the front-runners for the gig.
Laurent Blanc and Erik Ten Hag join Chris Wilder and England boss Gareth Southgate on the list.
And a surprise candidate is former midfield star Michael Carrick – a 20/1 shot to replace Solskjaer.
