Man Utd make opening £12m Alex Telles transfer bid… which Porto do not even RESPOND to as it was so low

MANCHESTER UNITED’s opening £12million bid for Alex Telles was reportedly so low Porto failed to even RESPOND.

The Red Devils are chasing the Brazilian left-back, 27, before the transfer window slams shut on October 5.

And O Jogo reports the difference in valuations is so steep between the two clubs that United did not even get a reply from the Portuguese champs.

The report adds Porto want nothing less than £18m and will not part with the player if United do not up their initial offer.

United are hopeful the financial pressure caused by the Covid-19 pandemic will convince Porto to accept their offer before Monday’s deadline.

However, Porto are thought to have been left frustrated by the lowball offer, according to Correio de Manha.

They are even prepared to let Telles walk away for nothing when his contract ends next summer rather than sell on the cheap now.

That would mean Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could agree a pre-contract agreement with the player as early as January – but he would not join until next summer.

Telles has been shortlisted by United as they look to bolster their reinforcements at left-back and provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Shaw urged Ed Woodward and Co to dip into their pockets and add new players to Solskjaer’s squad after they were thumped 3-1 by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Fans have been critical of United’s transfer activity with only Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax for £39m.

And the Dutch midfielder’s agent has ripped into the club for leaving him on the bench and said they should have lost 7-1 against Brighton last weekend.

United are still chasing Jadon Sancho and are in talks with Barcelona over a loan deal for Ousmane Dembele.
