Morrison made just four appearances for the Blades before featuring another three times during a loan stint with Middlesbrough.

But he failed to get his career back on track and is now set to start the latest chapter of his underwhelming career.

According to Omroep West, Morrison has held talks with the Eredivisie strugglers and is expected to sign a deal in the coming days.

Morrison was regarded as United’s brightest prospect when coming through the Red Devils academy in 2010.

Wayne Rooney even claimed he was a better player than Paul Pogba while Rio Ferdinand suggested he should have been a £100million superstar.

Even Sir Alex Ferguson lauded him as the most technically gifted player to come out from the youth team.

But he was plagued with behavioural issues off the field including being convicted of intimidating a witness to a knife point robbery.

In 2012, Man United finally lost patience with Morrison and reluctantly allowed him to join West Ham.

Loan spells at Birmingham, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff followed before earning a permanent switch to Lazio.

He would make eight appearances in Rome and was shipped back to QPR on loan before sealing a temporary switch to Mexican side Atlas.

Morrison would then join Swedish side Ostersund before Chris Wilder gave him another lifeline in England.

Last month Morrison hit back at critcism that he never hit the heights expected of him.

In a long Twitter thread, he wrote: “Don’t compare me to your average, there’s different levels…
