He is helping out with the Feed the Heroes campaign which brings food to those in the health service during this crisis and he even enlisted the help of some famous friends.

Speaking to Off the Ball on Monday and asked how he was, he said: “Keeping myself to myself for obvious reasons. Tough times as we know so it was nice to do a little bit of good this week.

“Seamus [Coleman] has obviously produced a bit of magic with his video and hopefully it home with a lot of young people in particular.

“I’d like to say ‘I’m all ok’ – like we are ok where we are. My family, there’s nobody directly involved with me has really been affected by it yet but it has deeply, deeply affected me this.

REALLY UPSET

“I can’t say I’m sat at home and cracking on and trying to find a little bit of order – it has really, really upset me what’s going on.

“You’re, kind of, left helpless not knowing what to do. We volunteered last week to the HSE like a lot of other people did. We got an email back the last couple of days so hopefully we can do something in the coming days or weeks – what that will be, I’m not so sure.

“But, a friend of mine was involved in the catering side for this campaign ‘gofundme’ page and was telling me a little bit about what they’re doing based in Tallaght Stadium – feeding all the ambulance staff, the fire brigade, the nurses on the frontline, delivering into hospitals.

“So, I just sent out a few texts to people who I though would be good to get involved or do a little video or possibly donate and who better than the captain of our team.

“My wife said something to me yesterday and she hit the nail on the head – it’s like the first time everybody’s been on the same side and that goes across the world, doesn’t it, in terms of trying to fight this thing. Money goes out the window – it humbles you, it makes you think what is important in life – it puts things into perspective like you wouldn’t believe and I do think it will change us a nation, as a society, going forward.”

Andrews went on to explain that even doing a simple daily task has become an issue for him as he tries to adjust to our new restrictions in isolation.

“Even when our postman drops off a little parcel or envelope – I’m scared to death of that – I’m leaving it outside for a day or whatever. So yeah – it’s difficult times,” he added.
