Jose Mourinho slams Tottenham players for ‘lacking ambition’ after fail to wrap up Wolves win and concede equaliser

JOSE MOURINHO blasted his Tottenham players for lacking ambition as they threw away two points against Wolves.

Tanguy Ndombele fired Spurs into the lead within 57 seconds at Molineux but the visitors failed to register a shot on target after the 21st minute of the match.

They were made to pay the price for their lack of attacking intent – and blew the chance to climb to third in the table – when Romain Saiss levelled the scores with an 86th-minute header.

Tottenham’s title challenge is being hampered by their failure to kill off games. They have conceded the most goals in the final 10 minutes of any Premier League side this season, which has cost them nine points.

Mourinho said: “I am frustrated with the result, we had control of game, we had 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn’t.

“It’s not just about not scoring but also not being dangerous and ambitious and for me that’s the problem.

“But I don’t think is very, very obvious to go in that direction and not to go in other directions.

“The other direction for me is you score a goal in the first minute, you have 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn’t.

“It’s disappointing (to concede as they did) and tomorrow we are going to have a similar meeting of other meetings we’ve had and we’re going to practise the same thing we practised that we have after other situations.

“But we have 89 minutes to score more goals.”

Mourinho insisted his feelings would not have changed even if Tottenham had held out to the final whistle.

He told Sky Sports: “I know the way I prepare the team I know what I ask from the players.

“I know what I told them at half time and I say no more than that. I give credit to Wolves but we did not have that ambition or desire to go for more.

“You know me. You know the way I work, I do not want to say much more about it.

“It is not for me to talk with you. I am sorry. I do not want to go deep. I know my team and my players better than everyone. No one knows my team better than me. I do not want to go in that direction.”

Tottenham round off the calendar year with a home clash against Fulham before kicking off 2021 by welcoming Leeds to north London.
