How Man Utd could line up with four new stars recommended by Rio Ferdinand, including Cavani and Koulibaly

RIO FERDINAND has named the four players Manchester United must sign this January if they are to snatch a top-four spot in the Premier League.

The Old Trafford legend, 41, took to Twitter to have his say – with Edinson Cavani and Kalidou Koulibaly topping his list.

United are desperately lacking a clinical, experienced striker – and Ferdinand believes Paris Saint-Germain misfit Cavani, 32, is the best option.

Writing on social media, Ferdinand claimed: “Just thinking… I would 100 per cent go & get Edinson Cavani.

“Huge experience, goalscorer, work ethic and great pro who the younger players in the squad would learn a lot from!”

Man Utd do have Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but both lack a clinical edge and are far more dangerous cutting in from the left flank.

Mason Greenwood is the only other central striking option, but aged only 18 lacks the required experience to consistently lead a Premier League attack.

Meanwhile, United are in serious need of a solid centre-back start alongside Harry Maguire, despite with Victor Lindelof currently the only option due to injuries.

Solskjaer has been without Eric Bailly for much of his time at Old Trafford through injury, with fellow defenders Marcos Rojo and Timothy Fosu-Mensah also struggling.

Elsewhere, Phil Jones is shockingly short of form.

And Ferdinand reckons Napoli star Koulibaly – a long-term target for the Red Devils – is just the man.

The Senegalese ace, 28, has consistently been a rock at the heart of the Serie A side’s defence.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand wants Solskjaer to raid Napoli again, this time for promising 23-year-old midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

United are lacking creativity in the deeper positions, with Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic the regulars with Paul Pogba so often missing.

Signing Ruiz would allow Pogba, when fit – and if he stays at the club amidst interest from Real Madrid – to maraud behind Cavani in the No10 position… arguably his most-dangerous role.

Finally, Ferdinand tipped “wildcard” Boca Juniors midfielder Agustin Almendra, 19, for a move to United.

The Argentine youngster is a skilful, goalscoring star from the midfield and could be just the man missing from the Old Trafford squad.
