Vice-president of EA Nick Wlodyka told Goal: “The Career Mode is very important for this year.
“We’ve really made the biggest investments we’ve ever made to make sure we’re delivering exactly what our players are asking for.
“We’ve had so much feedback over the past few years from our players wanting to see more things they can control in career mode.
“We listened to what they want to be able to do, things they haven’t been able to do in the past.”
So with EA championing the revamped game mode for this year’s edition, let’s take a look at the new features that are set to make the latest addition to the franchise the best yet.
INTERACTIVE MATCHES
Gamers will now be able to jump in and out of simulated matches
Players will now be able to jump in and out of matches as they please, all the while keeping an eye on proceedings from the proverbial touchline.
At twice the speed of regular play, the match sim will keep players on their toes, updating them on the game’s progress as well as giving them the opportunity to jump in and take part in the moments that matter most.
So whether you think the job’s done already, or if you need to save a sorry-looking situation – this new feature will give managers more options than ever before.
During games you will be able to monitor various information about your players and the match itself, including fitness, ratings, stats and opposition game plans.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Players can now be developed more thoroughly than ever before
Through the acquisition of “XP”, you will now be able to develop and improve your players – depending on their age, abilities, form and game time.
Players will also be able to be adapted to other positions and game styles, in order to perfectly fit your philosophy.
Setting specific development plans will allow gamers to use their XP where they feel that it can make the most difference to their players’ attributes.
PLAYER SHARPNESS
Players will now have to juggle fitness, sharpness and morale
A new addition to each player’s readiness will be their “sharpness” – adding to the fitness seen in previous editions of FIFA.
When a player’s sharpness is greater than 50, their attributes will be boosted accordingly – but gamers will have to be careful, as if it drops below the 50 mark, these attributes will be weakened.
Training has also been revamped in accordance, with the addition of “training days”, which can be set by gamers themselves on any day that doesn’t feature a match – with up to 15 players able to be involved in each drill.
Choosing the right drills for the right players can help improve various attributes, including passing, shooting and dribbling.
SCHEDULE PLANNING
Managers will now have more control than ever before
Managing the morale, fitness and sharpness of your squad will be key to your success, and FIFA 21 career mode will enable you to plan your club’s weekly schedule in order to try and get the right balance of all three.
Training days, as previously discussed, can improve your players – but excessively working them could have an adverse effect on their fitness and morale.
Recovery days will focus on getting your players fit and ready for the next game.
A sure-fire way to improve morale will be rest days, because who doesn’t love a day off?
Too many, however, could again negatively impact sharpness – so finding a balance between these various mid-week days will be key to success.
TRANSFERS
The transfer market has been given an overhaul to make it more realistic
Who doesn’t love nabbing a key signing on FIFA career mode?
In trying to move with the times, the game has now introduced loan-to-buy deals – a common type of transfer in the current market.

Rather than splash out on a player immediately, you can now negotiate a loan move – with an option to make it permanent later.
Player-exchange deals are already a thing on FIFA, but now the more intelligent AI will suggest swaps of their own during negotiations – aren’t they clever?
And that pesky AI will now also be more prudent when it comes to tying their assets down to longer deals – making the very best talent more tricky to prise away.
