Classy Wolves fans raise more than £12k for Raul Jimenez banner to be displayed at Molineux after he fractured skull

KIND-HEARTED Wolves fans have raised more than £12,000 to have a banner made of their hero Raul Jimenez.

The 29-year-old striker was involved in a sickening accidental clash of heads with Arsenal defender David Luiz at the weekend that left him with a fractured skull.

Jimenez received treatment from club doctors and paramedics, including receiving oxygen on the pitch, after being knocked unconscious.

The Mexican was rushed to hospital by an air ambulance after the horror collision and scans revealed a fracture which specialists decided required an operation to repair.

One Wolves fan decided to set up a crowdfunder to show support for the stricken star.

Kieran Newey wanted to try and raise £7,500 ‘to create a banner in support of Raul Jimenez and raise money for a charity of Raul’s choice’.

That target figure was passed withing two hours of the page going live, with the amount raised currently at £12,638.

Kieran wrote: “As a group of supporters, with the blessing of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, we want to show Raul just how much we love and appreciate him at this difficult moment of his life and career.

“We think it would be a great idea to display this practically by way of a banner at our beloved Molineux and are asking if you would be interested in partnering us to show the love!

“The goal is to raise enough funds to produce this with the hope that once the costs are covered, any excess money will then be donated to either a charity chosen by Raul or to a head injury charity of some sort.”

Jimenez tweeted out a message of thanks just hours after his operation

The idea is that supporters donate £9, the number the player wears on his back.

Just hours after undergoing surgery, Jimenez took to social media to share an update thanks fans for support.

Jimenez wrote: “Thanks for you support messages.

“I will be under observation and I hope to return to the pitch soon.”

Jimenez’s update will be a huge boost to Wolves and his fans.

The Mexican star’s horrendous clash of heads with Luiz was eerily similar to Ryan Mason’s collision with Gary Cahill in 2017.

Mason’s career was ended after he fractured his skull during Hull’s clash with Chelsea.
