Chelsea star Kepa is ‘doing what he does best – mistakes’ and Edouard Mendy is ‘far better’, says legend Frank Leboeuf

CHELSEA target Edouard Mendy is “far better” than Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to Frank Leboeuf.

The former Blues defender claimed “it’s over” for Kepa following his latest howler in the defeat to Liverpool.

The £71.6million keeper gifted Liverpool their second goal when his pass was intercepted by Sadio Mane.

He looks set to lose his No1 spot as the Blues have reportedly agreed a £22million deal for Mendy from Rennes.

And Chelsea veteran Leboeuf has insisted 28-year-old Mendy is the right man for the job.

Speaking on ESPN FC, he said: “Well, comparing what we see from Kepa, and Kepa is doing what he does best – mistakes – yes Mendy is far better than that.

“He had a very good season in Reims, signed for Rennes and had a very good season for Rennes.

“So I am very confident that he can do the job and much better than Kepa and even much better than [Willy] Caballero.

“So I don’t know if there is another goalkeeper who Chelsea could find but for that amount of money, yeah it’s kind of a bargain to have Mendy.

“He’s a tall goalkeeper, very agile and I’m sure he’s going to do the job.

“But Kepa cannot the job any more. It’s over.”

Caballero will replace Kepa between the sticks for this week’s Carabao Cup clash.

But Lampard has insisted the decision has nothing to do with Kepa’s display against Liverpool.
