Chelsea risk being stuck with haphazard Marcos Alonso as Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta rules out transfer

CHELSEA’s hopes of cashing in on Marcos Alonso appear to be doomed after the Inter Milan CEO revealed he won’t be joining the Serie A giants.

The Blues, who added left-back Ben Chilwell to the club in the summer, were said to be willing to let the Spanish star leave.

However, Giuseppe Marotta has appeared to rule out a potential transfer.

He told DAZN categorically: ““We’re not going to sign Marcos Alonso on the deadline day.”

Alonso has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, with Chilwell starring in the Blues’ 4-0 rout of Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 29-year-old defender was taken off at half-time after a disastrous first half performance against West Brom – in a game that Chelsea were losing 3-0 before staging a miraculous comeback.

According to Sky in Italy, Inter manager Antonio Conte was interested in working with Alonso again, and the club were working on a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.

However, Marotta has appeared to have quashed Conte’s plan.

Alonso was a star performer for both Conte and Maurizio Sarri in West London.

But he has struggled for form under Frank Lampard, and seemed set to leave.

If he does, Alonso will be the second first team star to leave the club following the departure of Ross Barkley to Aston Villa on loan.
