Chelsea ‘planning January transfer swoop for West Ham star Declan Rice’ to reunite him with best pal Mason Mount

CHELSEA will ‘try again’ for West Ham star Declan Rice in January, according to reports.

The Blues are eager to re-sign their former academy starlet, who was released by the club in 2014.

Rice, 21, has since flourished with the Hammers, already establishing himself as an England regular.

Chelsea are believed to have set their hearts on a move to bring Rice back to Stamford Bridge, where his best mate Mason Mount currently stars.

The Hammers have so far held firm, but that won’t stop the Blues, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian said on his Here We Go podcast: “Declan Rice would still love to join Chelsea, I think they would try again for him in January, they already have an agreement on personal terms with him.”

SunSport, however, understands Chelsea have not yet agreed personal terms with the midfielder or made contact.

Rice has four years remaining on his Hammers contract, with David Moyes’ side also having the option to extend the deal by a further year.

And SunSport last month revealed that West Ham are considering doubling his £60,000-a-week salary.

This would take him above Andriy Yarmolenko, who pockets just over £100k-a-week.

And move him in line with around the amount that Felipe Anderson was earning, prior to his loan transfer to Porto.

Rice was released by Chelsea in 2014, having been with the club for eight years.

He has since made 117 appearances for West Ham after debuting in 2017 – in addition to ten England caps.
