Celtic legend Jackie McNamara, 46, rushed to hospital with ‘bleed on the brain’ after collapsing on his doorstep


CELTIC legend Jackie McNamara has been rushed to hospital after a ‘bleed on the brain.’

The former Hoops captain is said to have collapsed on his doorstep after walking with his dog on Saturday.

And the 46-year-old is undergoing surgery in Hull after being transferred from a York hospital.

His former team-mate and dear friend John Hartson took to social media to confirm the news.

And sent his thoughts and prayers to Jackie’s wife Samantha and his children.

He wrote: “Worried sick for my former team-mate and great friend Jackie McNamara who collapsed at home on Saturday with a bleed on the brain.

“My thoughts are with his wife Samantha and the children 🙏🤞🤞🍀.”

Chris Sutton, Charlie Adam and Celtic also sent their well wishes online.

Celtic’s official twitter wrote: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at #CelticFC are with Jackie and his family.”

Chris Sutton wrote: “Thoughts and prayers for Jackie and Sam and the family 🍀.”

And Charlie Adam added: “Sorry to hear that. Hope he is ok 🙏”

Hoops fans also wished the former Scotland international a speedy recovery after hearing the news.

One wrote: “Shocking news. Wishing him a speedy recovery.”

Another said: “Get well soon, Jackie. We love you. HH”

A further used added: “God bless you Jackie. Hope you get well soon.”

McNamara played 358 matches for Celtic, winning four Scottish titles and six other domestic trophies.

He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 1988 and SFWA Footballer of the Year in 2004 and was also a part of Scotland’s last World Cup squad in 1998.

After retirement, McNamara went into management and had spells at Partick Thistle, Dundee United and York City.
