It’s reported that he was a resident at Highgate Care Home which was the centre of an outbreak of the deadly bug.

NHS Lanarkshire confirmed on Sunday the positive cases at the Uddingston facility.

Those affected were being monitored closely while measures were being taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

Now McManus has paid tribute to his late granddad, hailing him as a “great man”.

The Daily Record reports that Joe had been suffering from other health troubles at the time of the outbreak.

And that the Scottish Government hasn’t said if he tested positive for the virus before his death.

In a statement released through Celtic, McManus said: “We are all really saddened to lose such a great man but now he is at peace.

“He was a huge part of our family and someone we all loved dearly.

“He had been ill for some time with a number of different health issues, but obviously his loss is no easier to take for us all.

“He had a great life and gave so much to us all within the family in so many different ways.”

We told you earlier how a Glasgow nightclub has come under fire for hosting “one last sesh” weekend amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Bosses at The Shed in the south side of the city took to Facebook to announce they were staying open as usual this weekend – with clubbers urged to buy £4 and £5 tickets.

But the post faced serious backlash from angry members of the public.

The decision was branded “stupid” and “shocking” by those who believe the venue should remain closed amid the growing Covid-19 pandemic.

It comes as Boris Johnson stopped short of ordering bars and clubs to shut.

But many businesses are closing “to do the right thing” or due to a lack of customers.

The Shed said that Friday and Saturday nights in the venue would require a ticket.

And that clubbers would be refunded if it “didn’t go ahead”.
