So far the coronavirus has killed 1,384 people and infected 64,000 globally.

Ma, 32, said: “Yes, this is a special situation at the moment, not only in China but globally.

“We have volunteered to be here early to be clear to everyone that we are OK and we have not been infected.

“I just want to be involved to be honest and to be clear to everyone in this paddock and not let people worry about it.”

Ma arrived in Mexico early on February 2 to undertake his quarantine period ahead of the race on February 15.

Formula E are yet to confirm whether or not the Chinese ePrix in Sanya will go ahead this season following the coronavirus outbreak.

Ma added: “It is my home and Sanya is a great place to have this Formula E event but let’s see what can happen.

“Because I really hope it can happen later in the season. Not only for me, but for the team, as it is our home race.”
