UFC chief Dana White confirms Floyd Mayweather ‘is in our plans’ after boxing legend teases Conor McGregor rematch

UFC president Dana White confirmed Floyd Mayweather is in his plans after the boxing legend teased a Conor McGregor rematch.

Irishman McGregor – who Mayweather beat in a 2017 crossover bout – won his cage comeback on Saturday night with an emphatic 40 second knockout against Donald Cerrone.

According to White, Mayweather had been “blowing him up all night” after watching his former opponent’s KO win.

And after McGregor’s dominant performance the 42-year-old American posted a mocked up picture hinting at a rematch between the pair.

He also did the same for UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov – who was the last man to beat The Notorious, 15 months ago.

After UFC 246 in Las Vegas and Mayweather’s two social media call outs, US promoter White confirmed the ring legend will be in action within the next 12 months.

He said: “Floyd and I have been talking tonight. We’re doing something with Floyd.

“There’s so much going on, but Floyd is in our plans and we are in Floyd’s plans this year.

“We’ll end up doing something.”

Multi millionaire Mayweather retired in 2017 after beating boxing debutant McGregor in 10 rounds.

Though the former pound for pound king returned a year later for an exhibition bout against kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

Eager to keep the gloves on and remain in the headlines, Mayweather announced on social media in November that he was ‘coming out of retirement in 2020’ to work with UFC boss White.

And whether he fights in an exhibition or professional capacity, McGregor is adamant the veteran will be back in the ring, as the Irish southpaw called for a rematch.

McGregor said: “That Floyd, he’s a funny man, old Floyd. See what happens.

“The discussions are always ongoing, they never stop. You know Floyd and going through money fast.

“So, he’s far from retired. That rematch will happen at some stage.”
