Tyson Fury is using my name to steal fans and wind up Deontay Wilder, blasts Dillian Whyte

DILLIAN WHYTE reckons Tyson Fury is using his name to wind up Deontay Wilder and con UK fans.

Fury, who has been critical of Whyte’s heavyweight skills in the past, named Whyte alongside Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua as his three upcoming opponents.

Fan favourite Whyte, 31, has been due a crack at Wilder’s WBC title since 2017 but constantly been overlooked, in a frustrating spell that has earned him thousands of sympathetic supporters.

But Whyte believes Fury’s newfound respect for him is a sly bid to grab some of the Body Snatcher’s support and make a point about February 22 opponent Wilder ducking him for so long.

Whyte said: “Fury has said he would fight me before but we will see.

“He said he would fight me in May, if it was for the WBC silver belt, the WBC sanctioned it, and then he pulled out.

“Fury is very good at conning the public and saying the right things to keep them interested. He is very good at it and continues to do it.

“Of course he would say that to try to wind Deontay Wilder up and get the people behind him.

“He might be a good guy, trying to do the right thing, but he chats s*** as well and I don’t buy it.”

BATTLE OF THE BULGE

While waiting for his title shot, Whyte wants to arrange a paunch-up with Andy Ruiz Jr to decide who the toughest tubster is.

The 28-1 tank ballooned up to his career heaviest for his December win over Mariusz Wach, getting a points decision just before 20st Ruiz was outpointed by Anthony Joshua.

Whyte will definitely trim down for his next outing, and is being linked with a fight with Russian Alexander Povetkin while he waits for his long overdue shot at the WBC strap.

But he also fancies a dance with Mexican Ruiz who admitted to partying and eating too much – and training to little – after his shock June win over AJ.

Whyte said: “We made Andy Ruiz an offer before Povektin so let’s wait and see.

“We can see the two fat boys slug it out, see who has the tougher belly.”

Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the team had made a massive offer for Ruiz to start rebuilding his career after the rematch loss to AJ in Saudi Arabia.

The Matchroom kingpin said: “It’s a big seven-figure offer, but maybe Ruiz Jr thinks it isn’t the right money for him and he’s entitled to do that, but it’s a big fight for him to get back in the mix.

“It’s a risky fight for both, if Dillian loses to Ruiz, his world title dreams are shattered and if Ruiz loses two on the bounce, it’s not great.”
