The Montreal-born fighter says she is “not scared” having joined the frontline and decided to do so to “make a difference”.

Speaking to the Montreal Gazette Clavel, who is undefeated in 11 pro bouts and is the North American Boxing Federation flyweight champ, said: “It’s really hard psychologically. Those old people feel alone. They’re sad.

“Some of them don’t understand the (COVID-19) situation, so they don’t want to stay in their rooms. It’s really hard.

“We have to play nurse and psychologist at the same time.

“I’m not scared. I know we have a risk. I know it, but I’m not scared of it. I want to help people so much that I forget about myself.

“I follow the rules and protect myself because I want to protect them, but I’m not scared of it.”

Clavel admits she has to sit in her car and listen to music to relax after a shift such is the mental strain of her new job.

But it is a choice she is adamant was the right one.

She added: “I had the choice. I could have stayed home, doing nothing, and waiting for the government money.

“No. I had the permission to help and I need to help, so I did it. I feel I can make a difference.”

Many of Clavel’s patients are “scared and feel alone” with the boxer left wondering “which is the biggest killer – COVID-19 or the feeling of being alone.”
