Lennox Lewis reveals how Tyson Fury tactically ruined Deontay Wilder by making him ‘fight going backwards’

LENNOX LEWIS praised Tyson Fury’s gameplan in producing a spectacular knockout victory against Deontay Wilder on Sunday morning.

The Las Vegas rematch was under the Gypsy King’s command from the get-go as he neutralised Wilder’s incredible power.

According to heavyweight legend Lewis, Fury’s tactics were spot on as he kept on the front foot to secure the WBC world title belt.

Lewis tweeted after the fight: “The best fighters solve puzzles.

“Tonight Tyson Fury solved the puzzle that was Wilder by making him fight going backwards where he’s not as explosive. Big Manned him.”

Famously, London-born Lewis remains the last fighter to unify the division and almost two decades have now passed without an undisputed heavyweight king.

Fury’s capture of the WBC belt has set him on a collision course with Anthony Joshua in what would be a mega Battle of Britain style bout.

But while AJ and his camp are intent on setting up the clash for this year, Wilder does possess a rematch clause to complete the trilogy with his conqueror.

Ahead of that option being taken up, Lewis tipped the Bronze Bomber to come back from Sunday’s defeat a better fighter while congratulating Fury.

The 54-year-old added: “Congrats to Fury on a huge win and bossing his way to the WBC & Ring Heavyweight straps. Once again you showed up big.

“Wilder keep your head up and learn from this.”

Lewis was present at the MGM Grand as Fury earned a technical knockout victory.

Before the contest, he was invited down to the ring along with two other former undisputed heavyweight champs, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, to collect honorary WBC medals.
