Floyd Mayweather appears to confirm Conor McGregor rematch THIS YEAR after putting up fight poster following Cowboy KO

FLOYD MAYWEATHER appeared to confirm his interest in a rematch with Conor McGregor this year after the Irishman’s successful UFC comeback.

McGregor took just 40 seconds to emphatically knockout Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, having not won since 2016 when he beat Eddie Alvarez.

But after 15 months on the sidelines since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov, The Notorious confirmed he will be an active fighter this year – and revealed his desire to return to the boxing ring.

The Irish southpaw put on hold his UFC career in 2017 to box ring legend Mayweather, which he lost in 10 rounds.

But Mayweather hinted he could rematch McGregor within the next 12 months after he posted a mocked up poster of the pair hinting at a 2020 rematch.

Dana White confirmed in the post-fight press conference that he was in talks with Mayweather.

He said: “Me and Floyd Mayweather have been talking tonight and we are doing something with Floyd.

“We are both in each other’s plans and we will do something together this year.

“Everyone talks about how rich Conor is but Khabib is rich, he has that kind of money, around $50million.

“But Khabib and Conor hate each other.”

McGregor previously revealed he was in talks with WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao but insisted he wanted another crack at 42-year-old Money.

For The Notorious’ cage comeback he brought back his first ever coach, Irish amateur boxing legend Phil Sutcliffe Sr.

McGregor is adamant he could beat 50-0 Mayweather under the guidance of Sutcliffe, who first trained the future UFC icon as a 12-year-old novice champion.

Mayweather revealed in November that he was ‘coming out of retirement’ to work with UFC boss White on a ‘spectacular event’ in 2020.

Promoter White revealed he is due to speak with the American’s advisor, Al Haymon, within the next few months with the view of staging a Mayweather fight towards the end of the year.

McGregor said on a rematch with Mayweather: ” I would like to rematch Floyd. I did phenomenal in that [first] bout.

“I know I’d beat Floyd if we rematched and when we rematch.

“I would like to box him and I think that would be a good rematch.

“You never know. They’re good people to do business with the Showtime people and Floyd, you never know.

“It was great to fight Floyd, great to to be in there with him. He’s truly crafty. It was a great, great experience and I look forward to doing it again.

“It will happen, it’s going to happen again.”
