Dillian Whyte slams Wilder over ‘ridiculous’ decision to take Fury rematch and says Brit ‘is better in every department’

DILLIAN WHYTE has branded Deontay Wilder “ridiculous” for taking up a third fight against Tyson Fury.

The Bronze Bomber was taught a lesson in Las Vegas last month as Fury reclaimed his WBC belt with style.

The Gypsy King was controversially denied victory in their first meeting over a year ago, with Wilder rescuing a draw.

And many feel a third fight wouldn’t benefit anybody as talks of an all-British bash between Fury and Anthony Joshua to unify the heavyweight division intensify.

However, that hasn’t stopped Wilder from triggering his rematch clause which Fury is contractually obliged to accept.

And Whyte, who is now the mandatory challenger for Fury’s title, believes Wilder has made the wrong decision.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s ridiculous considering he lost the first fight.

“Fury is better than him in every department.

“What’s he going to change now that he hasn’t changed in the past 12-15 years?

“Nothing, he’s going to change nothing.”

Fury’s third bout with Wilder has been pencilled in for July 18.

But promoter Bob Arum admits that date is very unlikely due to the current coronavirus crisis.

He told ESPN: “We don’t even know if the MGM will even be open by then.

“You could not guarantee the fighters that the event would take place on that date. We couldn’t convince them or ourselves.

“Where were they going to train for it? It just made no sense. You just have to take a step back.

“How are you going to sell tickets? It’s absolutely ridiculous to say the fight is on when the Brits can’t even get there.

“So everybody has to take a step back. Boxing is not isolated. It’s part of what’s happening in the world. So possibly the fight will be in early October.”
