Anthony Joshua blasts rival Tyson Fury as ‘liar who waffles’ after claiming he had talks with McGregor over UFC fight

ANTHONY JOSHUA has called Brit boxing rival Tyson Fury a “liar” and a “bit of a waffler”.

The two heavyweights could fight down the line, especially if Fury defeats Deontay Wilder next month and wins the WBC title.

AJ seems keen for an undisputed scrap, and if that’s Fury that could even take place in Britain.

But first the Gypsy King is preparing for his rematch against Wilder – and has made some outlandish claims in the lead-up.

First was that he could turn to MMA after boxing, and that he had been in touch with Conor McGregor about some training.

But this was shot down by McGregor himself, who said before his stunning win over Donald Cerrone: “Tyson keeps saying we have spoken and that I have said that I would train him but I have never spoken to Tyson in my life.

“I don’t know why he is saying that but it is not a bad little story so I let it roll. I heard he is coming to my fight at the weekend and he is a good man and a phenomenal boxer.”

Fury then claimed that he wouldn’t move into MMA but fancied a “stand-up fight” against a UFC star.

Then just last week Fury said he was masturbating “seven times a day” and would be “releasing a w**k lotion” to aid with the solo project.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his fellow heavyweight, Joshua said: “He bet on Charles Martin to beat me, he bet on Joseph Parker to beat me.

“He’s a bit of a waffler. Fury does what Fury does.

“He said that he spoke to Conor McGregor on the phone? That was a lie as well.”

Joshua has also revealed that negotiations have begun for a potential undisputed heavyweight clash with Wilder.

Everyone wants Wilder to win because [a fight with me] is what everyone wants to see

AJ managed to win back his world titles with a wide-margin points win in his rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr in December in Saudi Arabia.

He exacted revenge for a shattering KO defeat to the Mexican just six months before.

SunSport reported last week how AJ had also held discussions with Oleksandr Usyk’s team – but the Wilder scrap remains the ultimate objective.

And Joshua thinks he can get that in the bag BEFORE Wilder vs Fury III – despite years of wrangling over money for the fight to happen.

The 30-year-old said: “We’ve had meetings. That same meeting with Usyk’s manager, afterwards we had another meeting to potentially put an offer in to solidify [a fight with Wilder] before they have even had their fight, and before I have my next fight.

“Everyone wants Wilder to win because [a fight with me] is what everyone wants to see.

“Wilder has a great right hand, I have a great left hand. It is a great boxing match.

“We had a meeting about that. It has great potential. I heard [Wilder and Fury] have a third fight lined up towards the end of the year but we have to throw a curveball in there.

“Something that gets Wilder’s attention providing he wins so that he thinks to himself, ‘Even though I have a rematch clause, I’ll see how I can manipulate my contract, get out of it, and fight for the undisputed championship’.”
