Shaoxing, China, December 5, 2019 – Igor Gorgonzola Novara opposite Jovana Brakocevic said her team must fight for every ball as they gear up for tougher battle in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
Jovana Brakocevic was voted MVP in her team’s victory against Tianjin Bohai Bank
“I’m expecting my team to fight for every ball,” Brakocevic said. “If we fight for every ball, then that will give us that confidence that everything is possible. We are playing against teams that have been playing their highest level of volleyball so we just have to play point by point.”
The Serbian star is doing just that and has helped her team earn two tiebreak victories, scoring heavily on both occasions. In their come-from-behind victory against Tianjin Bohai Bank Volleyball Club, Brakocevic scored 28 points. She kept her scoring momentum to hit the 30-point mark in the next match against defending champions Vakifbank Istanbul.
“I don’t really count the points I score in a match, this is of less importance to me,” Brakocevic said. “Against Vakifbank, I struggled a lot because I played against my ex-coach (Giovanni Guidetti) who knows my game very well and he read it well today.”
After being sidelined in the past because of an injury, Brakocevic has been showing remarkable improvement in her game. She is hopeful that her recent performance will help build the character of the team.
“I’m still not in perfect condition because I had an injury but I’m responding in a good way. I am getting better and better each day. Before this tournament, we couldn’t even win, but these two wins are good for the team’s mentality,” Brakocevic explained.
“The goal is to play good volleyball and to be in search of our team game. We are doing it step by step and taking care of our own game.”
