Having played for MLS side LA Galaxy for two seasons, the 38-year-old has been a free agent since the summer.

The deal with the San Siro giants has been agreed in principle and will initially run until the end of the season, according to the Telegraph.

Milan sit 11th in Serie A and will hope Zlatan – who played for the Rossoneri between 2010 and 2012 – can fire them up the table to challenge bitter rivals Inter who are top.

During his first season in England, Ibrahimovic bagged 28 goals helping United win the Europa League and League Cup.

A serious knee injury eventually saw him move Stateside where he continued to dazzle fans bagging 52 goals from 56 games in all competitions for Galaxy.

But he retained admirers in Europe with Jose Mourinho reportedly interested in bringing him to Spurs.

However, his old club AC have reportedly won the race for his signature in what could turn out to be his last playing contract.

Ibrahimovic’s home was recently vandalised by Malmo fans after he bought a 25 per cent stake in bitter rivals Hammarby.
