GRANIT XHAKA has appeared to blast Arsenal fans with a cryptic post about his “happiness” alongside a photograph of himself in a Switzerland kit.
The midfielder was axed as Gunners skipper after telling fans to “f*** off” when he trudged off during the disappointing 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month.
Granit Xhaka’s Instagram post of himself in a Switzerland kit when he wrote of his ‘happiness’
Xhaka, who can help the Swiss qualify for Euro 2020 with a win away to minnows Gibraltar on Monday, went on Instagram as his war of words continues.
Accompanied by the picture, he posted a message in German which translated as: “Happiness is when you are satisfied with yourself and do not need the confirmation of others.”
The new dad revealed after his initial outburst that he was furious at social media messages from so-called Arsenal fans, who trolled him and said they hoped his little girl died of cancer.
Xhaka was said to be angry over these messages and others attacking his wife when he confronted supporters at the Emirates on October 27.
His stance was met with a furious response from Gunners chiefs and boss Unai Emery.
Emery immediately took the captaincy off him and appointed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as his replacement.
Meanwhile, Xhaka’s Arsenal future remains shrouded in mystery, amid interest from Newcastle.
He has not played for Arsenal since the Palace game.
Many believe he will now be sold when the transfer window opens in January, with Italy thought to be his preferred destination.
Newcastle are said to be interested in him and the link with Swiss team-mate Fabian Schar has boosted their hopes of doing a deal.
Xhaka, signed in a £38million deal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016, is at the heart of a series of problems on and off the pitch for the North Londoners as pressure grows on boss Emery on the back of a shocking run of one win in seven games.
