Pereira has won league titles in Portugal, Greece and China in a managerial career that has taken across nine different clubs.
But Everton won’t be his tenth after ruling himself out of the running to be in the dugout at Goodison Park.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s always an honour and I am utterly grateful to be considered on a list by a club that I have so much respect for.
“At this point, I’m still coach of SIPG and they are close to my heart.
“In a country that is growing a lot in football, it means that at this moment I’m not in a position to make any commitments.”
Pereira is one of the highest-paid managers in the world and is mulling over a new contract offer at Shanghai of more than £30m a year.
Everton will now need to turn their attention elsewhere and are still eager to make a swift appointment despite interim boss Duncan Ferguson’s impact in their 3-1 win over Chelsea.
It is claimed that the cub hierarchy held talks with axed Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
Sky Sports also claim Emery met with Goodison chiefs in London to discuss a swift Premier League return.
Former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac their victory over Chelsea from the directors’ box and is in the running for the job.
David Moyes and Napoli chief Carlo Ancelotti are also on the shortlist.
