Tammy Abraham apologies to Aston Villa fans for scoring goal but striker comes off injured in huge Chelsea blow

TAMMY ABRAHAM showed his thanks to Aston Villa fans for his loan spell at the club by refusing to celebrate when scoring for Chelsea.

But it wasn’t the perfect evening for the striker as he came off late in the 2-1 win with another injury.

The weekend defeat to West Ham didn’t involve Abraham as he picked up a hip knock and was only just ready to play against his old club.

It wouldn’t take him long to make an impact as he headed in a perfect Reece James cross for the opener.

Scoring in front of the travelling Villa fans at Stamford Bridge, the England star didn’t celebrate having spent a successful year in the Midlands.

Last season saw Abraham hit 26 goals in 40 appearances as Dean Smith’s side won promotion via the play-offs.

It doesn’t seem too bad.

Lampard on Abraham knock

And he is naturally still very fondly remembered at Villa Park and received a great reception from their fans on Wednesday.

There was also some bad news for Abraham though with Chelsea fans the ones most affected.

In the 83rd minute, the striker limped off to be replaced by Michy Batshuayi.

Given his recent absence, worries mounted quickly but boss Frank Lampard has since assured that: “It doesn’t seem too bad.”

Having bagged an assist for Chelsea’s winner, Abraham earned an ovation from both Chelsea and Villa fans at the final whistle.

One Twitter user posted online: “Tammy Abraham was brilliant tonight. Never celebrated when he scored and clapped the Villa faithful throughout the game. He also came over the the Villa fans after the game. That is what you call a top, top bloke and a top, top baller.”

Another fan account added: “Very cool the reception that Aston Villa fans gave Tammy Abraham as he was coming off and after the game. Says a lot about Tammy.”
