Ramsey fired up for Euros by 2016 semi-final ban heartache as Wales qualify four years after he missed Portugal KO

AARON RAMSEY admits he has unfinished business at the Euros – four years after his semi-final ban heartache.

The Juventus ace fired Ryan Giggs’ Wales to next summer’s finals with a double in the 2-0 win over Hungary to secure qualification.

Ramsey, 28, was also a star at Euro 2016 but the midfielder, who was named in the Team of the Tournament, missed the semi-final defeat to Portugal through suspension.

Asked if there was a sense of unfinished business at Europe’s biggest competition, Ramsey said: “Yes. It was obviously a disappointing ending to the Euros for me by missing out on the semi-final.

“Those things happen and now I have the opportunity to go out there and express myself again and hopefully we can have another successful run like we did last time.”

Wales have a 50 per cent chance of being based in Italy at Euro 2020.

Rome or the Azerbaijan capital of Baku is one option while Denmark’s Copenhagen and St Petersburg in Russia the other.

And Ramsey, who moved to Turin from Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer, says it would be a good destination for Giggs’ side during the tournament.

Rambo added: “I’m enjoying my time over there at the moment so that would be nice. I haven’t even thought about where we are going to be playing yet.

“It’s about enjoying tonight now and then we will come to all of that over the next few weeks.”

Ramsey’s double in Cardiff came on his first start of Wales’ Euro 2020 qualifying campaign following a series of injuries.

And he revealed his delight after his amazing return to the international fold allowed his team-mates to clinch successive Euro finals appearances.

The Welshman beamed: “Brilliant. Obviously I’ve not been involved for a year but it makes up for it that I helped to chip in with a couple of goals tonight to send us through.

“It was a great effort from the players, from the staff, everyone involved so to experience this again now is going to be some journey. We’re looking forward to it.

“Yes, to do back-to-back Euros is something special. It was very disappointing not to make the World Cup. But we learned from that experience of that night to bring it back here and to win in the manner that we did was a nice experience.”
