Napoli appoint Gattuso as manager less than 24 hours after sacking Ancelotti

Ancelotti was axed following a furious falling out with the club president.

Gattuso played under Ancelotti in the AC Milan side that won two Champions League trophies.

The 41-year-old had been unemployed since being dismissed as AC Milan manager after 18-months in charge in May.

His first task will be to help fire Napoli back up the table with the club underperforming in seventh spot.

After being introduced to the media for the first time, Gattuso sensationally said: “It’s embarrassing to see Napoli where we currently are in the table.”

He added: “The team is aware of the difficult situation and wants to do well. I’ve been encouraged.

“I fear nothing. I know I’m going to be working with experienced people. I hope to get results.”

Meanwhile Ancelotti is expected to step straight back into management with Arsenal and Everton keen to hold talks.

The Toffees have now highlighted Ancelotti as their number one target and will soon make an approach, according to the Telegraph.

Ancelotti is said to be open to the prospect of moving back to England but may see what Arsenal offer before committing to the Merseysiders.
