Mourinho’s Spurs are already showing signs of his dark days at Man Utd – they must spend big in the January window

JOSE MOURINHO’S family, unlike many across the nation, will be unable to enjoy a festive game of Monopoly tonight.

That is because he surely used his Get Out Of Jail Free card against Brighton on Boxing Day.

Tottenham’s top-four hopes were in tatters as they trailed 1-0 to Adam Webster’s header at half-time.

It followed a first-half performance by Spurs which was reminiscent of their manager Mourinho’s final months at Manchester United.

No pace. No fluidity. No cutting edge. Very little excitement.

They should have been 2-0 down early in the second half when an unmarked Aaron Connolly headed over the bar from six yards when it seemed easier to score.

That would surely have meant defeat for Tottenham and a mountain to climb to try to finish the season in the top four.

But a mix-up by scorer Webster and his Seagulls team-mate Dale Stephens gifted Harry Kane an equaliser.

And Dele Alli’s stunning winner plucked an unlikely victory from the jaws of defeat.

It left a relieved Mourinho looking more like the Lucky One than the Special One.

It showed he cannot afford to take a Chance with this current Spurs squad and he must look to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Tottenham are already paying the price for going a whole season without making a signing. They must not make the same mistake again.

Yes they managed to beat Brighton in the end, but they could have so easily lost.

And if Tottenham want a fifth successive top-four finish this season cannot afford many more losses. They are already playing catch-up.

Mourinho must get to work in the transfer market next week, not at the end of the season.

It could be too late come the summer.

How many top players would want to join a club in the Europa League?
