Man Utd verdict: Man Utd’s recent resurgance under Solskjaer means Pochettino will surely have to look elsewhere

SURELY the last four days have put the Mauricio Pochettino rumours firmly to bed once and for all.

The former Tottenham boss is going to have to look elsewhere for his next club as there’ll be no vacancy at Old Trafford any time soon.

In three games after Poch left North London, United didn’t win any of them – against two newly-promoted clubs and Kazhakhstan minnows Astana.

Even the United fans who idolise the Norwegian from his playing days were starting to wonder if this was going to work.

Meanwhile the board must have known they faced missing out on the Argentine forever unless they made a move pretty sharpish.

The games against Tottenham and United looked like they could be key – it would have been a brave man to predict Solskjaer’s men to get anything.

Yet he has taken on two of the Premier League greats of recent years in Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola – and beaten them both.

Ed Woodward’s support of Solskjaer has been unwavering – he publicly backed him in the days after the dismal defeat at Newcastle in October.

And now it looks like the cultural reboot which the chief executive wants will be allowed to continue.

United’s fans will be happy with that – the jubilant supporters in the South Stand at the Etihad went through their full range of Solskjaer songs.

The only team to take points off Liverpool this season – and wins over Chelsea, Leicester, Tottenham and now City.

Amazing really when you look at some of the teams they have dropped points against so far this season such as Newcastle, Sheffield United and Aston Villa.

But there is something there for Solskjaer and his United revolution – now they must push on and build on this – without the spectre of Poch looking over his shoulder.
