Man Utd ratings: Rashford at scintillating best while Shaw felt pace on return to XI in Manchester derby win at Man City

MANCHESTER UNITED bagged a famous 2-1 win at Man City in tonight’s Manchester derby at the Etihad.

First-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were enough to give United the three points despite the late scare when Nicolas Otamendi’s header gave City hope late on.

United move to fifth with the win while City are third.

And here’s what SunSport’s William Pugh thought of the Red Devils’ individual performances this evening.

DAVID DE GEA – 7

Not tested too much before the break but did what he had to do when called upon. Big save in the second-half as City chased the win.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 8

Impenetrable presence at right-back and didn’t let anything past him all evening. Outstanding.

VICTOR LINDELOF – 7

Shouts for handball against him in penalty box in first-half but nothing given and was good block.

Played well to absorb home side’s pressure alongside impressive Maguire.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 8

Imperious performance at the back.

Soaked up all City’s pressure before the break and his gritty no nonsense showing provided a solid platform for United’s dangerous forwards to break.

LUKE SHAW (subbed off, 88 mins) – 5

Let Bernardo Silva through a few times in the first-half on his return to the first XI.

Nothing tragic but someone had to score the lowest in a fantastic United team performance.

Looked sluggish as game wore on and pace caught up with him.

SCOTT McTOMINAY – 7

Often bypassed given the style of the two teams.

City probed wide a lot and United sprung the ball out to their speedy front men whenever they got the ball but the impressive stats tell the story of his performance.

Won 13 of 16 duels he was involved in so can’t ask for much more than that.

FRED – 7

Rascal nutmeg on Rodri in first-half was a nice touch in an energetic accomplished and quite frankly ‘un-Fred-like’ performance.

Lost the ball in dangerous area to let City in early in second-half.

DANIEL JAMES – 8

Involved in most of United’s speedy counter attacks throughout.

Early effort stung the palms of Ederson but was straight at him.

Provided an excellent outlet in a perfectly executed game plan.

JESSE LINGARD (subbed off, 88 mins) – 7

Showed desire throughout. Could have done better with first half chance with scores at 0-0.

Performance probably overshadowed by his stunning attacking colleagues.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 9

Was an integral part of United’s impressive early counter attacking play.

Won the penalty and smashed it home with aplomb.

Frightened City on the break and led by fantastic example once again.

ANTHONY MARTIAL (subbed off, 74 mins) – 9

Looked dangerous from minute one.

Linked up with James and Rashford in scintillating fashion and took his goal really well to double United’s lead on half-hour mark.

Only taken off as United needed defensive reinforcement.

SUBS

ANDREAS PEREIRA (replaced Martial) – 6

Booked with very first action for cynical hack on Raheem Sterling.

ASHLEY YOUNG (replaced Shaw) – 5

Dug in and secured the win.

Axel Tuanzebe (replaced Lingard) – 5

Stopped City nicking an undeserved winner.
