MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has slammed the fan that directed alleged racist abuse towards his players during today’s derby victory.
Red Devils midfielder Fred was pelted with missiles when going to take a corner in the second half, with his side leading 2-0 in the second half.
Solskjaer condemned the fan’s actions
As well as being pelted with the objects including lighters and a bottle of water, the Brazilian midfielder, as well as Jesse Lingard, had to put up with what appeared to be vile taunts directed at them for the colour of their skin.
An understandably fuming Solskjaer said after the match: “I’ve seen it on the video, it was Jesse and Fred and the fella must be ashamed of himself.
“It’s unacceptable and I hope he will not be watching any football anymore.”
In the 67th minute, as Fred prepared to take a United corner, with Lingard in close quarters, the objects began to rain down from the stands.
And TV cameras appeared to pick up one City fan doing what looked like monkey gestures, while muttering, “black b*****d” towards the South American.
Fred and Lingard’s United went on to win the derby 2-1 at the Etihad, to leave rivals City 14 points off top spot.
And after the game, Manchester City released a statement on the incident.
It read: “Manchester City FC are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show a supporter making racial gestures during the second half of the match against Manchester United this evening.
“Officials from the club are working with Greater Manchester Police in order to help them identify any individuals concerned and assist with their enquiries.
“The club are also working with GMP regarding an instance of objects being thrown onto the field of play.
“The club operates a zero tolerance policy regarding discrimination of any kind, and anyone found guilty of racial abuse will be banned from the club for life.”
And Kick It Out also had their say: “We have been inundated with reports of alleged racist abuse from a number of individuals during this evening’s Manchester derby.
“We will be contacting both clubs to offer our support and hope swift action is taken to identify the offenders.”
