Man City record lowest possession percentage of Pep Guardiola’s managerial career against Wolves

MANCHESTER CITY recorded the lowest possession rate against Wolves of any team Pep Guardiola has managed in his career.

City crashed to a late 3-2 defeat at Molineux as Nuno Espirito Sanchez’s side came from two goals down to snatch all three points.

The loss left City 14 points adrift of runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool, who still have a game in hand on the rest of the top sides.

And it also saw Guardiola concede his team are now well out of the race to defend their crown with Jurgen Klopp’s team seemingly unstoppable right now.

But the match was also notable for the small amount of possession City enjoyed in the game.

Stats service Opta showed the soon-to-be dethroned champions were only on the ball for 37.8 per cent of the game.

That time in possession is the lowest mark any team managed by Guardiola has managed through his career.

It broke the previous low of 46.7 per cent which was recorded in the home win over Chelsea last month.

In fairness to City, they had been forced to play the large majority of the match with a player less than their opponents.

Goalkeeper Ederson was sent off after just 12 minutes of the match, meaning City played the remaining 78 minutes with just ten men.

That would account for a majority of the reason why City did not control the way the game was being played as much as they usually do.

But it also shows just how comfortable Wolves as a side are when they are in possession.

The Midlands side have now moved up to fifth in the table, right in the mix of the battle to secure a top four finish this season.

Pep Guardiola denies having secret clause in contract that lets him leave and insists he won’t quit Man City this summer
