Luis Figo denies having romantic relationship with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona

LUIS FIGO has bizarrely denied the “urban myth” that he had a romantic relationship with Pep Guardiola.

The pair were teammates and close friends during their time together at Barcelona as players.

Figo is married to Helen Svedin who he met in the 90s playing for the Catalan side and the couple now have three children together, Daniela, Martina and Stella.

He told magazine ICON: “Guardiola was a great friend.

“He helped me a lot. He was my roommate, but there was nothing. I like women.”

Figo was further asked why he thought no players in La Liga have come out as gay.

He responded: “Football is very cruel.

“You play every Sunday and you’d be criticised for that and not your performance.

“It will be for protection [that nobody has come out], not because of shame.”

Figo had to forgive ex-teammate Ronaldo for his cheeky comment about his wife.

Accosted by the club president for partying too hard “like his friend Figo”, Ronaldo jokingly replied: “If I had Figo’s wife, I would stay home every night.”

Speaking on La Sexta’s El Hormiguero programme, the former Portugal winger laughed off the incident.

He noted: “I already knew about that because he mentioned it in the dressing room.

“I know Ronnie and I have a lot of love for him.”
