Liverpool ‘winning Jadon Sancho transfer race’ ahead of Man Utd and Chelsea as Klopp prepares to bolster his squad

LIVERPOOL are reportedly winning the race to sign Jadon Sancho.

The Athletic’s Simon Hughes claims the Borussia Dortmund winger is edging towards Anfield despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Sancho, 19, is one of Europe’s biggest breakout stars in the last 18 months.

He has become a key player for his German club, and is now a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Chelsea are believed to be keen on striking a deal after having their transfer ban lifted.

While United have been fans since Sancho’s days playing for Manchester City’s youth team.

However, it’s said that the midfielder is most likely to end up at Liverpool next summer.

Jurgen Klopp is always on the lookout for top talent, despite boasting the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in his front line.

And Sancho’s return of 22 goals and 28 assists since the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign has sent him to the top of the German’s shopping list.

Speaking to the Athletic’s podcast, Hughes said: “It’s quite clear that Liverpool would quite like to sign Sancho.

“Klopp made a big revelation last season that Liverpool wanted to sign him from City but found it impossible because of the club rivalries that exists and various reasons.

“And that story got buried a bit because I think it was around the Bayern Munich game if I remember correctly.

“It’s quite clear that they’re monitoring his availability and if he was available, Liverpool would have the money to sign him.

“It’s whether he’s available at that time and whether it correlates with Liverpool’s needs at that time.

“It looks to me like Sancho, as a forward can play right, sometimes left.

“Klopp is the sort of manager who likes to move players about, could play him through the middle.

“He’s agitating for a move quite clearly away from Borussia Dortmund at the moment.

“If he wanted to move back to England and Liverpool wanted him, Liverpool are going to be ahead of Man Utd in the pecking order.

“There’s no doubt about that. Liverpool are a much better team at the moment, more attractive.”

Should United miss out on Sancho, they could instead move for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

While Chelsea could be tempted to beat Barcelona and re-sign Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo for just £3.5million.
