Jose Mourinho predicted Tottenham would finish third when a pundit for Sky Sports

JOSE MOURINHO will be backing his new Spurs side to finish third this season… because that’s what he predicted as a Sky Sports pundit.

The Portuguese boss is back in the Premier League after sensationally replacing axed Mauricio Pochettino this morning.

His task after penning a three-and-a-half year deal will be to bring silverware back to the club for the first time since 2008.

But firstly he will need to address the club’s worrying run of form.

They have won just three in 12 matches and are without an away win in the Premier League since January.

With just 14 points so far, they are already 11 points adrift of Manchester City in fourth and 20 away from top of the table Liverpool.

But Mourinho still thinks his new club have the third best squad in the Premier League.

Earlier in the season when asked where Spurs should finish, he said: “I would say definitely Manchester City and Liverpool [will be in the top two], then Tottenham are still the third best team.”

All eyes will be on Saturday’s mouthwatering clash against London rivals West Ham as Mourinho takes to the Spurs dugout for the first time.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager once revealed how he could never manage Spurs after leaving the Blues.

He said: “Yes. I couldn’t go. I couldn’t train in England for two years.

“I would not take the job because I love Chelsea supporters too much.”

But a whopping £15million-a-year salary and the prospect of becoming the first manager ever to win three Champions League titles with three different teams obviously proved too hard to turn down.

His pay packet means he is now earning double that what Pochettino was taking home.

Spaniard Pep Guardiola is the best-paid manager in the country earning £20m, having led Manchester City to two consecutive Premier League titles.
