How Liverpool’s kids could line up at Aston Villa in Carabao Cup with Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster set to start

HARVEY ELLIOTT and Rhian Brewster are both set to start for Liverpool in tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Aston Villa.

Under-23s coach Neil Critchley will lead a team of youngsters out at Villa Park as Jurgen Klopp prepares his senior squad for tomorrow’s Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey in Qatar.

Highly-rated pair Elliott and Brewster are both set to lead the line for Liverpool.

And they could be joined in attack by winger Luis Longstaff.

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Isaac Christie-Davies could also get an opportunity to shine.

And he could be supported in the centre of the park by Herbie Kane and Pedro Chirivella.

Meanwhile, Ki-Jana Hoever and Tony Gallacher will be hoping to start on the flanks in defence.

And Critchley could also call upon centre-backs Sepp van den Berg and Morgan Boyes to shield goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

It could be an exciting evening for Liverpool fans as they watch some of the club’s top young talent in action.

Critchley exclaimed: “It’s a great opportunity for all of us, myself included.

“I’ll be very proud to lead the team out. To see the excitement in their eyes, it’s so uplifting.

“[Klopp] takes great interest in our young players. He’s fully aware of all our young players and who they are.

“He asks me questions about them constantly so I’m sure he will be watching the game with great interest.

“The group of players that will take the pitch is one that I work with constantly – it’s not like we are throwing a team together.

“We will be well prepared. It’s important that we go and play like a Liverpool team.”
