Gareth Bale gives thumbs-up to fans’ hilarious ‘Wales, Golf, Madrid’ song in dig at Real critics

GARETH BALE has given the thumbs-up to his new ‘Wales, Golf, Madrid’ song.

Dragons fans chanted the ditty to the tune of their usual ‘Viva Gareth Bale’ for the first time in the away end in Azerbaijan on Saturday.

The song is a dig at Bale’s critics in Spain, who claim the forward is more interested in Wales and pacing the fairways than playing for Real Madrid.

Bale, 30, told Welsh TV channel S4C: “I’ve heard it, especially when I was on the bench when I came off and the boys were laughing. It’s a bit of fun.”

Asked whether he approved, the winger simply added: “We want the Welsh fans to be the same as always.

“To be supporting us, to sing, to be the 12th man.”

There is also a banner with the same words which will make its debut at the Cardiff City Stadium when Wales face Hungary tomorrow night.

Bale picked up an injury in the last international break and did not feature for Zinedine Zidane’s side since.

Yet he proved his fitness in Wales training and played 60 minutes in their 2-0 win over Azerbaijan on Saturday.

Real team-mate Thibaut Courtois nicknamed Bale ‘The Golfer’ last season.

And a summer deal to join Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua fell through at the eleventh hour.

Shenhua have reportedly revived their interest, while Manchester United have also been linked with another attempt to sign the ex-Spurs star in January.

But publicly Zidane has claimed Bale will stay at the Bernabeu for the rest of the season.
