Everton confirm Duncan Ferguson as manager for Man Utd clash as search for new boss goes on

EVERTON have confirmed that caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson will remain in the dugout for Sunday’s visit to Manchester United.

The Toffees legend masterminded an outstanding 3-1 victory over Chelsea last Saturday, after Marco Silva had been sacked 48 hours prior to the match.

And amid speculation linking Everton with a number of contenders to replace Silva, Ferguson will continue for another weekend.

The 47-year-old Scot will be assisted by John Ebbrell, Francis Jeffers and Alan Kelly at Old Trafford.

Everton had tried to lure Shanghai SIPG coach Vitor Pereira to Merseyside.

But the 51-year-old opted against moving to the Premier League, telling Sky Sports: “It’s always an honour and I am utterly grateful to be considered on a list by a club that I have so much respect for.

“At this point, I’m still coach of SIPG and they are close to my heart.

“In a country that is growing a lot in football, it means that at this moment I’m not in a position to make any commitments.”

The Toffees are now reportedly ready to rival Arsenal for Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian was sacked by Napoli last night, despite leading his side to a 4-0 victory over Genk in the Champions League.

They have also been linked with Unai Emery and Niko Kovac.

And Kovac even added fuel to the fire by attending the victory over Chelsea at the weekend.

The result against Chelsea managed to lift Everton out of the relegation zone, but Ferguson now faces a tough ask against in-form Manchester United at Old Trafford.
